ABOUT P.E.T.

Parenting can be hard — that’s a given! On some days, when we’re locked in power struggles with our children, or when we ourselves are tired, it can be downright exhausting.

In those moments, when we’re fed up and just want our child to listen to us, many parents turn to punishments, bribery, or rewards. While these strategies might “work” temporarily, they only serve to chip away at the trust between us and our kids.

P.E.T. can show you another way.

Parent Effectiveness Training (P.E.T.) is a unique and fun 8-week parenting course created by award-winning psychologist Dr. Thomas Gordon, a three-time Nobel Peace Prize nominee.

WHAT YOU'LL LEARN

During your P.E.T. course, you’ll gain practical skills to communicate with your children, creating a more peaceful and satisfying relationship. Specifically, you will learn to:

  • Listen empathically to your children so they feel truly understood.
  • Communicate your needs without having to resort to coercion.
  • Reduce problems and conflict, thereby strengthening your relationship.
  • Resolve conflicts using the No-Lose method, so that everyone’s needs are met.
  • Collaborate with your children in setting family rules.
  • Help your children develop self-control, rational thinking, and a sense of personal responsibility.
  • Gain trust that will last through the teen years.

When children know they won’t be judged or lectured, they begin to confide in their parents rather than withdraw. They start to think, My dad gets me or My mom understands what I’m saying!

That’s when the entire family dynamic changes, away from conflict and toward peace and joy.
